Each Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. PST Sherry Harbaugh of TRC, hosts a manufacturer, supplier, or product representative to discuss their material. This is not too unlike other specifier share groups in the country, but unique in that we don’t meet in person but our focus is on understanding materials and getting it right in the spec.
The goal of the group is to gain a better understanding of how to clearly specify materials and products. We discuss a single specification section each week and dig into what it says (or needs to say!). We listen to the description, the stories, the pictures that the presenter shares, and ask questions as we go.
This forum is bringing architects and specifiers together with material experts, to ask questions and share knowledge by learning in an open conversation. It is a virtual round table format discussion about a material, and specifically of course, about the technical properties we need to understand when looking at the specification.
Beyond the need for basic coordination of the construction documents, a misspecified item can create an RFI or create unintentional costs. This is a great opportunity to have an open conversation with a member of the supplier team to make sure everyone understands the specified material.
It also provides the valuable opportunity to build a relationship with a Trusted Advisor, someone you can turn to when you have a question before or during construction and get an honest answer. As a specifier with nearly 30 years of experience, I understand the value of connections. If I don’t know the answer, I know how to find someone who does.
You don’t need to be a specifier to be a part of the conversation. Contact Sherry to be included on the weekly invitation, or be invited as a presenter!
